You my last hope ange6.gif

In December I upgraded my computer with a new motherboard, CPU, and Memory.

But, I kept the same Operating System (Windows 98) and everything else.

However, I have run into a problem with my Citizen Printiva 700 MicroDry printer that has drove everybody I asked MAD!

Even Citizen has given up and will no longer answer me.

It seem that after the printer is installed, it may work (if lucky) once! The rest of the time I get a window stating the following:

Error While Spooling to "" Unable to Create a New Spool Job

Then after clicking the "OK" button I get: Error Initializing Output Device.

Then, if I manually open the spool manager program ( or sometimes on it own) , a large white window with the following:

CZSPLMGR

An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway click ignore and save your work
...

If I click Ignore nothing

If I click Close then the following:

Also, in the INI file for this printer I sometime find that the printer it not listed after the first use, and even if manually written into the program, it will vanish after reboot.

I have tried to get this printer to use Windows98 built in spooler, or to print directly with-out spooling.

It won't have any of it eusa_naughty.gif

I have also tried all three printer port setting in the BIOS. I have gone into the reg files to erase all traces of the printer before installing a new driver. I have used the original and last version (2.02) of the driver that Citizen put out, I have even tried the ALPS (MD-2010) version (3.1) of the driver.

I been told that my memory (the computers that is!) may be bad. I was told that my Norton Anti- Virus /firewall software might be the problem. And I was even told to forget about it, and get a new printer!

No Difference!

The ONLY thing that seems to work is the Epson LQ-850 Dot Matrix printer driver which Citizen informed me that is the core component of the Printiva's driver.

But, it only works in Black, and this is a Color printer! oops.gif

My Laser and photo printer are not effected.

The problem has to lie somewhere in my computer/software since I have been able to use this printer on my laptop with no problem using the same Windows 98 OS/driver that is on my desktop.

Does anyone have ANY idea what is the bloody heck is wrong?

I had a ink jet printer, and I don't want to go back to it.

Please HELP!
John
It seems the problem is coming from W98. Why don't you install a more recent W2000 or XP ?

Why? It the same OS that I be using since 1998, I did not change any part of Win98 after the MB/CPU transplant, and Win98 never gave me such a problems before the new motherboard.

1: Can't afford it sad.gif I just got "surplus to requirements" 2 day after buying the motherboard/CPU/Memory!

2: With Windows Vista just about to hit the market, I'll wait

3: The drivers for the Printiva stoped at the Win95 level, so technically there is no Win98 drivers. Which also means that that there is no XP drivers. And if I have this trouble with Win 98, then just think the problem(s) I would have with Windows XP

4: As for the new printer solution? See Number 1.
John
OK but I not shure you have a solution as W98 was very unstable at his time, now you install it with new hardware that did not exist when W98 was written, I don't think you find somebody to fix your problem.

But may be I wrong and some W98 expert will fix your problem !

Good luck

John
