I have the same problem! Did you find out the answer? Perhaps re-install of the printer driver?

Best regards

I don't think reinstalling the printer driver would do the trick.

I have bad news for you guys!!

I bought an x4550 complete with 3 original cartridges a few months ago, and when they ran out of ink I got them recharged locally, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get them to work. Then I read the back of the cartridge box which revealed...

" these printers are licenced for single use only. "

The software/firmware/hardware in them disables them for refilling!!

To add insult to injury it says

"used cartidges must be returned to Lexmark for refilling, recycling or remanufacturing!"

So as consumers we pay for these cartridges to be refillled so that Lexmark can sell them to someone else?? It's a rip off to have to buy new cartridges every few months at the prices Lexmark charge (I pay $53000/$58000 Colombian pesos for a new black/colour (about 18/20 GBP)

In my opinion it is not enough to inlcude a disclaimer in small print on the rear of the boxes, this single use scam is sufficiently material to a customer's purchasing decision that it should be emblazoned across the front of the boxes.

I've got no joy from emailing Lexmark, so if it is possible to refill these cartridges, please post a reply here (or if anyone can confirm that they have successfully managed to use generic or branded REFILLABLE cartridges in an x4550) please post here.

Just an update guys...

If you look at the original boxes for your cartridges you might find that they are 23/24 (Black/Colour) and are not refillable (well physically they are, but they won't work as the printers are "chipped" to reject them). The boxes are likely to be red.

I tried to buy generic cartridges which are refillable, but I couldn't get them anywhere. The only solution seems to be to buy Lexmark cartidges 33/34 Black/Colour), these boxes are grey. These cartridges are a little bit more expensive but they are refillable.

Another point to note is that these cartridges are only primed to give on average less than 500 pages, so if you are a heavy print user it can work out cheaper to have documents photocopied commercially!!

It really galls me violent4.gif that most shops only sell the non refillable cartridges as they make more money out of the repeat purchases!! and when you do buy cartridges the sellers don't make it their business to tell you the cartridges are not refillable, but once bitten twice shy!!

Hope this helps some of you guys avoid he same mistake I made.
