At work i use win2kpro SP4. all connected on a little LAN (about 4 pcs) with a couple of print servers that dont even know what they are doing. All i need to do is alter the settings in the printers folder but for some unknown reason it wont save the edited settings.

Port selection help errr

I have recently stumbled across a problem while trying to print off a 'report' from a certain piece of software used by the company i work for. the solution to this little problem was to selcet a different printer in the setup list. note that the 'other' printer selected was exactly the same printer but with different settings (a pervious installation). now i believe that the main problem i`m having is that the printer installed on my computer has settings that work with the software i.e. my port is set to LPT2. now when i go to the printer properties to change the port on other computers i am told by windows (in its infinite wisdom) that ...Printer setting could not be saved. This operation was not completed....handy....but why? I am logged in as an administrator and i cant edit my settings!!! then i tried to create a new port with the same settings as LPT2.....apparently windows does not support this....even though it gives you the option....i`m stumped...and forgive my cynicism but i`m a linux user
.
